애매하게 활동하다 은퇴한 아이돌 그룹 출신 친구 셋은 학창 시절 가지 못했던 수학여행에 대한 미련으로 때늦은 제주 여행을 떠난다. 오랫동안 계획해 온 이들의 여행은 도착 첫날부터 틀어지기 시작한다.
Three retired K-pop idols take a trip to Jeju Island. After failed careers and missed school trips, they finally have the time to go on a trip on their own. On their first day on the island, things start to go awry.

Review — JEONJU International Film Festival
〈힘을 낼 시간〉은 국가인권위원회의 15번째 인권영화 프로젝트로, 아이돌의 인권을 다루는 영화다. 이 영화 속에서 제기되는 아이돌들의 인권 침해 문제는 상당히 많다. 금전적인 것은 물론이고 과다 노동시간이나 성적인 침해, 정서적 문제까지 일부 대형 기획사 소속 아이돌이 아니라면 여전히 발생할 수 있는 사안들을 다룬다. 인권영화 중에는 임순례 감독의 〈날아라 펭귄〉(2009)이나 이옥섭 감독의 〈메기〉(2018)처럼 굳이 인권영화라고 하지 않으면 알 수 없을 정도로 재미있는 작품도 있는데, 〈힘을 낼 시간〉 또한 이들 영화와 맥을 같이 한다. 〈십개월의 미래〉(2021)에서 임신부의 삶을 적나라하면서도 유쾌하게 보여준 남궁선 감독은 이번에도 장기를 발휘해 쾌활한 청춘 드라마 속에 인권 이야기를 스무드하게 녹여냈다. 전직 아이돌 세 명의 이 뒤늦은 수학여행기는 지난 시절을 돌아보고 새로운 출발을 다짐하는 이 시대 보통 청년들의 이야기이기도 하다. “내가 여기에 있다. 나라는 사람이 여기에 있다”라는 이 영화의 메시지는 젊은이라면 모두 공감할 수밖에 없을 것이다. Time to Be Strong is the 15th Human Rights Movie Project by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea and explores the human rights of idols. There are a lot of issues raised in the film about the violation of idols’ human rights. It deals with various issues, from financial problems, excessive working hours, sexual violation to emotional issues, which may still arise if these idols are not affiliated to any large agency. Some human rights films are so entertaining that they may not be recognized as human rights films, if the definition of it were not mentioned. These include Fly, Penguin (2009) by Lim Soon-rye and Maggie (2018) by Lee Okseop. Time to Be Strong is in line with these films. Director Namkoong Sun, who depicted the life of a pregnant woman in a candid yet hilarious way in Ten Months (2021), displays her talent once again, seamlessly blending human rights issues in this cheerful youth drama. A belated school trip for three former idols is also the story of ordinary young people, who look back on the past and vow to make a fresh start. The message of the film, “I am here. The one called I is here”, is something that all young people can relate to. (MOON Seok)
